Discontinued First Aid Brands: What Changed and How to Stay Workplace Ready

Over the years, the workplace first aid industry has changed a lot. Manufactures merge, brands are discontinued or rebranded, and supply chains evolve. As a result, you may have noticed a first aid brand you previously purchased is no longer available on our website.

This page is intended as a resource to explain why this happens, how it impacts workplace and first aid readiness, and most importantly, how your business can continue to meet OSHA and ANSI requirements without disruption or unnecessary costs.

Our focus has always been to help businesses maintain compliant, well stocked first aid kits without relying on costly first aid van service contracts. Brands names may change, but workplace preparedness does not.

Why Some First Aid Brands Are No Longer Available

First aid brands do not disappear for a single reason. Availability changes are driven by broader industry shifts.

Common reasons include:

  • Manufacturers discontinuing product lines
  • Companies being acquired or rebranded
  • Consolidation within the safety supply industry
  • Long-term supply chain instability
  • Changes in manufacturing focus or compliance alignment

When a brand is no longer consistently available, or no longer aligns with workplace standards, we remove it from our active catalog to avoid confusions and backorders.

The Impact of COVID-19 on First Aid and Safety Supply Chains

The COVID-19 pandemic marked a major turning point for first aid suppliers nationwide. During the pandemic, demand for PPE and workplace safety supplies surged while manufacturing and logistics were disrupted globally.

As a result:

  • Some manufacturers went out of business entirely
  • Others were acquired or rebranded
  • Certain products became unavailable for extended periods
  • Many suppliers scrambled to meet urgent demand

In our industry many of the products affected were PPE and over the counter medications. Some manufacturing facilities that made specific ingredients went out of business entirely. It was at this time we expanded and adjusted our brand offerings to ensure our customers could continue to get the workplace first aid products they needed. As supply chains stabilized, we refined our online catalog to focus on brands that offered consistent availability and dependable workplace compliance.

How We Evaluate First Aid Brands for Workplace Use

We do not select brands based on name recognition alone. Our main focus is helping businesses stock first aid kits that are practicle, compliant, and easy to maintain internally.

When evaluating a new brand, we consider:

  • Reliability of ongoing product availability
  • Quality of the product, we test items personally in house
  • Cost efficiency for businesses managing their own kits
  • Suitability for workplace environments
  • Packaging, labeling, is it easy to restock?
  • Alignment with OSHA and ANSI Z308.1 standards where applicable.

This approach allows our customers to restock without having to worry about long backorders or cancelled orders. It also helps us to bring in products from other manufacturers without having to be locked into a single manufacturer.

Does Brand Matter for Workplace First Aid Kits?

They absolutely do not. This is more of a personal preference.

Workplace first aid requirements focus on having appropriate supplies available and have no specification on brand.

For businesses managing their own kits, having this flexibility is an advantage. It allows you to:

  • Restock by item type rather than brand
  • Adapt to availability changes without falling out of compliance
  • Control costs without sacrificing readiness

What to Do if You’re Looking for a Specific Band

If you landed here searching for a brand that is no longer listed on our site, we recommend the following:

  1. Shop by category instead of by brand name. Our categories are organized around workplace use.
  2. Focus on ANSI-compliant kits and refills. This ensures you meet recognized standards regardless of the manufacturer.
  3. Check out our discontinued first aid brand index below for an alphabetized list and explanation of why it was discontinued.
  4. Contact our team if you have any questions. We are happy to help find suitable alternatives.
